Vacation Excitement

While we were in Hawaii Kyle decided to find some more things to be allergic too. He broke out in a rash, then his eyes decided to swell up so he only had tiny slits to see out of (way worse than in this picture). We ended up with every parents dream, a vacation trip to the ER. They ended up saying he was allergic to something, who knows what, and to give him some Benadryl. Can't wait for that bill. At least we got to get him all checked out and make sure nothing else was wrong I guess. In other Kyle doctor news, he had his 18 month check up. This boy is long an lean. He as 34.5 inches tall (just over the 95th percentile) and 28 lbs 4.3 ounces (80th percentile). His noggin continues to be off the charts, but as we say around here, it is just to make room for his big brains.

Hawaii!!!

We spent last week on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was so fun! My entire family was there and we had a blast spending time together. There are so many fun pictures...here are just a few
(sort of).
Kyle went everywhere with his blanket. I've started calling him Linus.
Boogie boarding and trying to not run into the turtles (they were coming up to us on this beach)
Both boys tried "surfing."
Little beach bums

This was the beach across from our condo. The sand there was amazing.
We hiked the lava tubes up by the volcano.
Evan was a little freaked out that lava was going to get us.
Entering the lava tube. It is crazy that this part was rain forest, but to get there we drove through a desert.
Volcano...also freaked Evan out a little although he was very excited to see it, and to see there was no lava spewing out.
Black sands beach.

Evan apparently had tired legs and needed to catch a ride.

Bubba Gumps
Evan got to make his sand angel like he had talked about for weeks before we left.
We got up close and personal with the turtles, but we obeyed the law and didn't touch them. So tempting though.
One of many geckos we caught. They were everywhere.
Other than this there was a lot of playing on the beach, snorkeling and seeing great fish and coral, and the nights the rest of the family managed to stay awake we played cards.
I love Hawaii! It is hard adjusting to long pants and socks again.

Baths and Books

The boys thought mohawks in the tub were hilarious this morning. It was like a was a genius for even coming up with the idea. I love earning cool mom points for random stuff like that.
My little bookworm.
Frequently lately he disappears and I find him somewhere "reading."

Happy Birthday

I tried to post this last week on my mom's birthday, but blogger wouldn't let me. So, a week late, Happy Birthday Mom! She turned 21 for the 29th time (as we explained to the waitress). We all went to Red Robin to celebrate and Evan complained that we weren't having cake. He did manage to find a pepperoni pizza to order, so he decided her party was okay.
My cute parents.
In other news, Kyle just looked at these pictures and said Grandma. He couldn't say anything a few months ago, and now he has all sorts of words. I love when they can finally communicate.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider?

I gave my mom her birthday present a day early. I sucked up this huge spider with the vacuum. I don't think the pictures do it justice. It looked more like a small tarantula than a spider. It was up above the door so I had to get up on a ladder and pray he couldn't jump. There was a lot of screaming, but in the end, no more spider.

It's Always Something New

Occasionally Evan swallows his gum. Usually he spits it out, so I figured a piece of gum consumed now and then was no big deal. That was until today. He climbed up and got himself a fresh pack of gum while we were at my parents today. I thought nothing of it as he took a piece for himself and shared with me. He was so excited about his pack of gum that he was carrying it around the house. As we prepared to leave we noticed gum wrappers everywhere and after some questioning discovered that he had swallowed 7 or 8 pieces of gum. I'm sure his stomach is really happy right now. We called the doctor (as we contemplated his obstructed bowel and what they might need to do to fix that) and for now it is lots of fluids and check back if he seems constipated. We have had a very long talk about not swallowing gum. Here's to hoping it all comes out okay....literally.

Happy Halloween....

I know I'm really late on this one, but oh well. Here are a few pics from our Halloween.
The couple of hours Brandon was awake on Halloween (he worked the night before and that night) the boys had a little guitar session.
Apparently the guitar wore Kyle out because he passed out on the couch just before my parents arrived to help with passing out candy and trick-or-treating. I had to wake him up and he was a very grouchy tiger...which is why there are no pictures of him.Evan decided to be a pirate and had a fabulous time going to all the doors. He made my mom be his helper at most of the doors. She would walk up to where she could see the door with him and he took it from there. We did our entire development plus a few other random houses, and he managed to fill his bag to overflowing. It got too heavy for him at the end so I had to carry it.Kyle did a few houses with us then came home to pass out candy with Pimpa. He perked right up when Evan came home with the loot, and amazingly enough shared it with Kyle. They have both enjoyed all the candy in the house, and it is working as good incentive to finish their meals. We'll see how long it lasts.
