Finished Project

Becca's dad has been furnishing our home since we got married. Lately, I draw up plans and he puts it together with some of his own touches and we really love all of our pieces. This entertainment center/TV stand is the most recent work. Today I went out and bought a piece of tinted Plexiglas for the door along with some hardware to attach it. This is probably the most important part of the unit as it protects the DVD player and other stuff from our precious fuzzy boy, Kyle. When Evan was Kyle's age, Evan pushed the eject button on the DVD player and then pulled down on it when it popped out. Those little trays don't hold 30lb toddlers well. Needless to say, we replaced that player.

Random Comments.

Driving in the car, Evan wanted to know who we should invite to Becca's birthday party. Evan started listing off family members and finally ended with "...and Kyle. Kyle, the fuzzy boy." Becca and I cracked up. Evan was totally straight faced; like it's some sort of title for Kyle. You have Alexander the Great, Ivan the Terrible, and Kyle the Fuzzy Boy....destined for greatness.

Yesterday, Kyle rammed his head into the sliding glass door several times (darn Windex). I thought of the Bee Movie; "this time, this time, this time..." Kyle was laughing the whole time so we weren't that concerned. Then he proceeded to crawl underneath the dining room chair. Usually he gets stuck and and smacks his head trying to back out and squeals at us to get him. This time he bent down real low and turned himself around and crawled out. Evan ran over and said "Kyle's a genius."
In other news, the "fuzzy boy genius" now has eight teeth. The picture above, shows Kyle just after his 2nd hair cut (less fuzzy).

Hooray for SUNSHINE!

Today has been absolutely beautiful; only a few jet streams in the blue sky. It's been 60-65 degrees with a light breeze. This is why we live where we live and yes, the rain is worth it. I think everyone was soaking in the sun today. We took the boys on a little stroll around a lake. Usually around this lake you can see coots, ducks, and frogs. Today we had a special treat and we saw several painted turtles basking on logs. There were six on the log below.

The Results Are In

Kyle's lab results came back totally normal, so he is going to be fine. Now, to tell you why we were a little nervous. They were testing him for Stevens Johnson Syndrome. We of course googled it and the first thing we read is that it is a "potentially fatal drug reaction." We read more and it said that the skin would blister, then slough off, and sometimes skin grafts were used in treatment. Not exactly comforting news. As we read we figured at most he had the more mild form (which had some other name) but even that didn't seem likely. We were pretty sure we were in the clear, but it is nice to know for sure. So, two more days of steroids and hopefully he will look like his normal self. He doesn't act like it is bugging him at all which is nice. Anyway, all is well. We just have to stay away from all Penicillin based drugs, so we are getting that put in all of his charts.

Vast improvement.

After only one dose of prednisolone, we've noticed wonderful improvement in swelling and complexion in general. We are all very relieved. We've been looking at pictures online all day of allergy reactions that involve blistering lesions and sloughing tissue (not the most comforting thing we could have done). Thank goodness, the spots and swelling seem to be disappearing just as gradually as it came on.

Update

Overnight Kyle did not improve, in fact he got worse. You can tell his face looks pretty bad, and the rest of him isn't much better. He has a lot of swelling, and he is starting to bruise all over. I took him to the doctor this morning and apparently this is a severe allergic reaction to Amoxicillin. We got a steroid prescription to try to get rid of the bumps and swelling, and he gave us extra in case this ever happens again. We also got to go have blood drawn to check for some scary problems. We've looked online, and it looks like he probably doesn't have anything too scary, but we will know for sure tomorrow. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures of our happy, polka-dot boy.

PS-When you take a kid to a store looking like this, you get a lot of strange looks, and questions. We assured everyone he wasn't contagious and that it was just allergies. Then they look at you even crazier. Oh well.

Stats

Okay, I'm a week late, but Kyle is officially 10 months old. So, here is what he has been up to.He finally learned to hold his own bottle. Yes, it took 10 months to figure it out. This was last week, and only the second time he had ever done it (the first was the night before about 1 in the morning).

He has 5 teeth now. He cut two just in the last week, and there are more getting close. Luckily he is tolerating it better now.

He is huge. Our figures put him about 24.5 pounds, and somewhere around 30 inches. Not giant, but pretty good size. He just grew into 24 month clothes. They are a little big, but the 18 month were getting to short, and snug.

We discovered he had his second ear infection last Sunday and then this Sunday discovered he is allergic to Amoxicillin. The spots showed up in the middle of the night, and got progressively worse throughout the day until we got him some medicine. Hopefully he will start looking better soon. Thank goodness for on-call doctors both weekends who diagnosed him over the phone and didn't make us spend the day in the emergency room.
